Kaiwa Creatures ("we", "our", or "the app") is an AI-powered Japanese language learning app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use Kaiwa Creatures.
Account Information: When you sign in with Apple, we receive the information you choose to share, which may include your name and email address. Apple may provide a private relay email address if you choose to hide your email.
Conversation Transcripts: Text transcripts of your conversations with creatures are processed in memory to provide the learning experience. Transcripts are stored locally on your device via AsyncStorage for your conversation history. They are not stored permanently on our servers.
Usage Statistics: Daily usage data (such as conversation counts and streak information) is stored locally on your device.
Flashcard Data: Any flashcards generated from your conversations are stored locally on your device.
When you use voice mode, audio is streamed in real time to OpenAI's Realtime API for speech recognition and response generation. We do not store your audio recordings. OpenAI's data usage policies apply to the processing of your voice data. You can review OpenAI's policies at openai.com/policies/privacy-policy.
Kaiwa Creatures uses the following third-party services:
Your authentication token is stored securely on your device using Expo SecureStore. Conversation history and flashcard data are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage.
Our server uses an in-memory user store and JWT-based session tokens for authentication. We do not currently maintain a persistent database of user data on our servers.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. Data is shared with third-party services only as described above, solely to provide the functionality of the app.
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through the app's Settings screen. Locally stored data (conversation history, flashcards, usage stats) can be cleared by deleting the app from your device.
Kaiwa Creatures is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the effective date at the top of this page.
